How does an automatic backup generator work?

The generator system is pretty simple. The generator and transfer switch work together to monitor utility power 24/7. You don’t need to be available to start the system in the event of an outage-it will start automatically. The generator sits outside the home or business just like a central air conditioner while the transfer switch is located next to the main breaker box. How it works:

Within seconds of sensing utility power is lost, the generator starts automatically to supply power.

When the return of utility power is sensed, it automatically shuts down…

and returns to standby mode, ready for the next outage.

Cover what's important to you

Your furnace, central air, home theater, rec room-backup every circuit in your house thanks to the broad range of generator sizes available. You can even create a load-shedding system with the Honeywell Sync® transfer switch, and get more coverage from a smaller generator.

Stay inside while your generator braves the storm

Remote monitoring is standard on every Honeywell home backup generator. Observe generator status, set operation parameters and receive maintenance info-all from the comfort of your home.

It's reliable AND quiet

Smaller units benefit from the quiet reliability of the Generac OHVI® engine, the only engine designed specifically for generator use. Larger units boast low-speed automotive-style engines that run at only 1800 rpm, making them incredibly quiet. Weekly self-tests on all units run in WhisperCheck™ mode, which is even quieter than normal operation. And sound-reducing foam panels provide additional noise reduction.

Runs on clean, reliable gaseous fuel

Your generator runs on your home’s existing natural gas or LP fuel supply. Both easily meet EPA clean air standards, don’t face the spilling or storage issues of diesel, and are in continuous supply. That means your generator will run as long as necessary-until utility power is restored.

An exterior that withstands the elements

The premium aluminum enclosure resists corrosion for long life, even in salt air, with a RhinoCoat™ finish that adds superior weather protection.

The Honeywell Sync® transfer switch easily manage two large loads right out of the box.

The Honeywell Sync® transfer switch uses advanced load shedding technology to create an efficient system that accommodates a range of coverage requirements. Manage two air conditioners right out of the box without adding additional components or cost.

  • 100 – 400 Amp service rated, single-phase
  • NEMA 3R enclosure for outdoor applications, reducing weight and providing additional corrosion protection

Need more load management capability?

Add additional large loads to the Sync transfer switch system by adding up to four DLM modules, which can be easily placed anywhere along the line, indoors or out. This flexibility is ideal for larger homes with multiple air conditioners. Sync® Smart Switch 100-400 Spec Sheet
